For many of us, the thought of wearing a leather skirt is not something that occurrs often - at least without a raised eyebrow which says: 'I'm not that kinda girl...'
And yet you are.
Are you or are you not the kind of girl who likes to make little effort with her look, whilst giving the impression (albeit false or legitimate) that she knows what she's doing, she knows fashion and is confident and comfortable?
With its new found popularity, you can pick up a leather skirt in everything from a mini, to a pencil; in pleats, skint-tight, flared at the waist - we could go on. (We won't though.)
Let's have a look at how you can style your leather skirt without making you look like one of those kinda girls....
ASOS Leather Skirt, Holly Aran Knit, Tribal Neck Piece
Look One | Offset
What we mean by 'offset' is to completely conflict with everything the leather skirt says.
Leather in itself speaks volumes - it's rebellious, dangerous, sexual.
Apart from laddered flesh tights, the complete opposite end of the spectrum is the classic aran knit.
At this point, with your top and bottom sorted, you're at risk of looking like you are trying to fade away from your leather skirt by simply hiding in a jumper - that's where you need to accessorise.
By introduding this tribal neck piece in to the look, you're showing an awareness that, yes, you are indeed wearing a leather skirt, and by no means do you want to ignore that glorious fact.
However, you're not the kind of girl who needs it to be the focus of their look.
Those kinda girls get in trouble.
You're the girl that gets awarded.
ASOS Leather Skirt, Sybille Clamar Blouse, Saddle Master Hacking Jacket
Look Two | Contrast & Combine
Similar to the rules we followed above; we want to conflict with what the leather skirt says, whilst continuing to embrace it.
This is a slightly sexier look, but the layering tones it down, as does the incorporation of the traditional tweed hacking jacket.
Maintain femininity with a high neck lace blouse, and highlight your waist and tie in the look with a black belt (preferably also leather).
Throw over a tweed, slim line or boyfriend blazer and you're good to go.
Tip: When it comes to shoes, leave the stilletos at home. You want to be sexy, not slutty - and nothing is more attractive in a woman than a one that's comfortable.
Team your leather skirt with some classic pumps or masculine brogues.
